South Carolina Motorcycle Laws You Should Know
Motorcyclists have the same legal rights as other drivers in South Carolina. Other motorists are required to share the road and must not crowd, cut off, or force a rider out of their lane. That said, there are specific laws that apply to motorcycles:
- Riders must sit on the permanent, regular seat attached to the bike
- Passengers are only allowed if the motorcycle is designed for two riders
- Operators must face forward with one leg on each side of the seat
- Riders may not carry items that interfere with steering or control
- Motorcyclists may not hold onto or attach their bike to another vehicle
- No more than two motorcycles may ride side-by-side in the same lane
- Motorcycles are entitled to full use of a traffic lane
- Other drivers may not crowd a motorcycle out of its lane
